5-HTP

The source of 5-HTP (L-5-Hydroxytrytophan) comes from the natural seeds of the African plant Griffonia simplicifolia.

Clinical studies have shown that 5-HTP increases the amount and availability of serotonin the body produces.

5-HTP benefits

The benefits of 5-HTP are all associated with its ability to increase serotonin, which allows many health benefits.

  • 5-HTP intermediates the natural conversion of tryptophan into serotonin
  • Promotes the positive effects of emotional well-being
  • Supports appetite regulation
  • Helps increase melatonin production while maintaining a healthy sleep cycle

Alternative ways for supplementing 5-HTP

For 5-HTP absorption into the brain, consider taking tryptophan supplement with vitamin B6 and B3. It has been proven that vitamin B6 assists in the conversion of tryptophan into 5-hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP), which is in turn converted into serotonin in the brain.

Further, supplementing tryptophan with B3 has been shown to possibly reduce premature conversion of tryptophan in the bloodstream.

This makes more amounts of tryptophan available to cross through the barrier between blood and brain, in turn allowing more serotonin to be produced in the brain.
