DHEA

Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) is a hormone derived from cholesterol and pregnenolone.

DHEA is produced by the adrenal glands, located just above the kidneys, and in smaller amounts in the testes in male and the ovaries in females.

DHEA benefits

  • It promotes immune function.
  • Supports maintenance of bone density.
  • Helps to reduce cardiovascular risk.
  • It may aid in the enhancement of sexual well-being.

A DHEA-S blood test may be used to assess levels three to four weeks after starting daily supplementation.

These results can provide individual guidance towards optimize dosage.  Women often need only 15 mg/day of oral DHEA whereas men usually take 25-50 mg daily.
